'Aladdin' and his Genie work their magic with new DVD, Blu-ray
The new Diamond Edition of 'Aladdin' offers more magic and more behind-the-scenes genius from Robin Williams as the voice of Genie.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It was 1992 when we were first introduced to the magic of the animated musical "Aladdin." The movie's legacy continues and you can see the classic tale that introduced us to "A Whole New World" in a whole new way - with a new HD-digital and Blu-ray "diamond edition" that is available now.

Among the bonus features are outtakes from the legendary Robin Williams, who played the voice of the Genie. Those brought back fond memories for Scott Weinger who voiced Aladdin, and Linda Larkin, the voice of Princess Jasmine.

"Robin Williams was obviously a tremendous improviser," Weinger said. "There's these incredible outtakes, all this amazing stuff made it into the movie, but there's also tons of amazing things that didn't make it into the movie. We were there for it the first time in the room trying not to laugh and ruin all those takes, and we're glad we didn't because now you get to watch them and enjoy them."

Scott and Linda, who have with these characters for 23 years, learned to appreciate how prolific the "brand" has become.

"We went to a screening the other day and there were a theater full of little Jasmines," Larkin said. "It was really great."

Weinger had even more fun when he got to watch his own son view the movie on the big screen for the first time.

"He knew that Aladdin was somehow a part of the family. It was like some uncle that he never met," Weinger said. "And then for him to be in the theater, and watch it, and realize, 'Oh, that's my dad talking.' Watching him do the math, and then being super proud of me. They gave him a little plastic lamp, and I overheard him say to one of his friends, 'I get to keep this because I'm Aladdin's son.' Knocked me on the floor. It was such a great moment for me."
