VIDEO: LAUSD student drowns during school event

EAST LOS ANGELES, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Garfield High School student Erik Ortiz, 16, drowned Wednesday during an annual school event. His family is claiming the district was negligent because he was not being properly supervised.

Ortiz is a special-needs student that has had a full-time teaching assistant assigned to him since 2012, the family's attorney said.
