LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A homeless man was sentenced to more than a decade behind bars for fatally stabbing a woman in Hollywood last year.

Dustin Kinnear, 27, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison Friday morning - 11 years plus an additional year for use of a deadly weapon. The judge also ordered him to pay about $7,000 in restitution, fines and court costs.

He pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter for the June 2013 incident. A jury failed to reach a verdict in Kinnear's murder trial last month.

According to prosecutors, Kinnear attacked 23-year-old Christina Calderon outside the Hollywood & Highland Center. Investigators say Kinnear and two other transient men asked Calderon for money after she snapped pictures of them holding signs and panhandling. When she refused, an argument ensued, and Calderon was stabbed in the torso.
