LAPD investigating incident where woman was thrown off Red Line for putting feet up

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Police Department is looking into a use-of-force incident on a Metro Red Line train in which a woman was forcibly removed after she wouldn't take her feet off a seat.

Police say a sergeant was enforcing "code of conduct" rules on the train and asked a woman to remove her feet from the seats.

She refused and a video shows the officer forcibly removing Bethany Nava, 18, of North Hollywood from the train as she protests.

The officer "was like, you know, you're going to remove your foot or you're getting off the train," said Brock Bryan, a bystander who recorded the video on his cellphone. "And then he proceeded to pull her off the train."

"He was very agitated," Bryan said of the policeman. "I felt like, when she denied his first request, that was all he needed to hear."

Another woman, identified as Selina Lechuga, 22, became involved and police say she spit on the officers and was arrested for battery on a police officer.

Nava was arrested for being loud and boisterous on a train. She was cited and released.

Police say a use-of-force investigation is being conducted.
