Woman gives birth as start of Palisades Fire seen outside hospital window
An incredible moment was captured on camera, as a woman who just gave birth is seen in her hospital room with the ruby glow from the start of the Palisades Fire visible from the window.
Ariel Malmazada gave birth to her son, George, on Jan. 7 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica.
When Ariel, her son, and her husband, Jordan, moved to their postpartum room, she noticed smoke in the distance. That smoke was the beginning of the Palisades Fire.
Over the next 36 hours they watched as the fire grew.
And though they were supposed to stay at St. John's another night or two, they chose to leave after evacuation warnings grew closer to the hospital.
While all three are now safe at their home in Culver City, they say their family lost three homes in the fire.
