Los Angeles Rams collect 45,000 season ticket deposits in 2 days

EXPOSITION PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Rams have collected over 45,000 season ticket deposits in just two days for their upcoming return next season to Los Angeles, officials announced Wednesday night.

The team began accepting deposits at 10 a.m. Monday at www.welcomehomerams.com.

Although the L.A. Coliseum located in Exposition Park has a seat capacity for 93,000, the Rams say the refundable $100 deposit does not guarantee seat availability.

Officials say 5,000 deposits were placed within the first five minutes, 8,000 within the first 45 minutes and 45,000 deposits were made within 48 hours.

"We could not be more pleased by Los Angeles' passion for the return of the Rams," Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff said. "It is evident that our fans are excited to be part of history this year in the Coliseum and their energy is fueling our organization as we begin to build our new stadium in Inglewood."

The team plans to keep accepting refundable $100 deposits for season tickets through Feb. 8, pending availability.

The refundable deposits entitle fans to a spot in a virtual waiting line to purchase up to eight season tickets apiece for the Rams' first season back at the Coliseum after 21 years in St. Louis.

The deposits also entitle fans to a spot on the waiting list for season tickets at the palatial Inglewood stadium currently being built by Rams owner Stan Kroenke. The stadium, which is expected to be the world's most expensive sports arena with the estimated price tag of $2.6 billion, is projected to open in 2019.

The cost of tickets has not been announced.

"The ticket prices starting out this year will be very comparable to what we've had in St. Louis," Demoff said at a rally at the Inglewood Forum Friday. "Our goal is to make sure that everybody who wants to go to the Coliseum... can watch the Rams return to play."

L.A. has been without an NFL team since 1994.
