ALHAMBRA, Calif. (KABC) -- A former girls' basketball coach at Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra has been arrested on suspicion of committing lewd acts with one of his underage female players over the past year.

Joseph Alan Kikuchi, 56, was booked on multiple felony counts Thursday, including lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.

The investigation began on Sept. 15 after an administrator with the Alhambra Unified School District was made aware of a rumor regarding an intimate relationship between the high school student and her coach, Sgt. Jerry Johnson said.

"The investigation showed that on numerous occasions over the last year there was unlawful sexual contact between the coach and the female player," Johnson said.

Kikuchi, who resigned from his position as a coach last week, is set to be arraigned on Monday. The suspect was released from jail on Thursday night after posting $100,000 bail.

Anyone with additional information on this case or who may have been victimized by the suspect was asked to contact the Alhambra Police Department at (626) 570-5156.
