Man killed while visiting family in Thousand Oaks ID'd as New York resident

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities identified an elderly man Friday who was visiting family in Thousand Oaks and died after a car crashed through a room he was sleeping in.

Igor Lirstman, 74, of New York, was killed around 2 a.m. Thursday when a suspected drunk driver smashed his pick-up truck into the back of a home in the 2600 block of Briarwood Place.

The 19-year-old suspect, identified as Justin Stalberg, had been driving southbound on Rustic Glen Drive, which ends in a cul-de-sac.

Authorities said Stalberg failed to stop at the end of the road, ended up driving over a curb and through some thick shrubs, crashing through a fence and then down a 40-foot embankment into the back of the residence.

Lirstman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were two adults and two children in another part of the home who did not suffer any injuries.

Stalberg was also unharmed in the crash. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.
