A Ford Mustang was split in half in a collision with an SUV early Friday morning next to Athens Park in South Los Angeles.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at El Segundo Boulevard and South Broadway at about 2 a.m.
The back half of the Mustang landed in grass about 100 feet away from the front half. The 22-year-old driver was trapped inside the Mustang and had to be extricated.
The Mustang driver was hospitalized with a head injury and elbow lacerations.
