MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KABC) -- A close call for a Texas police officer who had to jump from a 30-foot bridge to avoid getting hit by a car on Friday.
Officer Kenneth Lewis was standing on the passenger side of a car during a traffic stop. He heard tires screeching and saw a vehicle careening toward him. He then jumped over the side of the bridge to save himself.
Lewis fell 30 feet. He later underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
The other car crashed into his cruiser. The woman driving it, an elementary school teacher, is suspected of driving under the influence. She was arrested and faces charges. Her attorney said she wants to apologize to the family of Lewis.
