POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A homicide investigation is underway in Pomona after a woman was found fatally shot on Monday morning.

Authorities responded to several 911 calls reporting shots fired in the 700 block of San Francisco Avenue at 2:55 a.m. The victim was found in a rear carport area with several gunshot wounds.

The woman, a Hispanic woman between the age of 30 to 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not yet been identified. Residents did not recognized the woman, but that didn't stop them for holding a vigil to say a prayer for her soul.

"There's no know suspects at this time. Her identity will lead to other leads, then hopefully we'll identify suspects or positive leads in the investigation," said Pomona Police Sgt. Patrick O'Malley.

Earl Wood, who lives across the street, says he saw two cars speed away afterward, and he thinks a number of people might have seen those vehicles before the shooting.

"It's a pretty quiet neighborhood, but around 2:30 a car came down the neighborhood with loud music, pretty loud, woke up everybody I know as they went up and down the street, and then they parked, and the shots went off," said Wood.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Pomona Police Department's Detective Bureau at (909) 620-2085.
