SANTA PAULA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man has been arrested for firing a shot that went into a Santa Paula carport, killing a 39-year-old mother of two.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.

Authorities said Norma Elizaldy was killed when shots were fired nearby in the 1200 block of High Street on Saturday afternoon. A stray bullet had gone through a window, hitting her in the neck.

The preliminary investigation revealed that two people were in a physical altercation with two others who were passing by in a dark-colored sedan. A male suspect opened fire, and one of the rounds struck Elizaldy.

The victim's twin sister, Irma Ramos, says Elizaldy was a loving wife and mother to two boys, ages 13 and 16. She said the 13-year-old son witnessed his mother get shot, collapse and die. Ramos lives next door to her sister and ran to her aid.

"I ran over there, and she's on the floor. There was nothing that I could have done, nothing that anybody could've done. They took apart of our life, our family," she said.

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to call authorities anonymously at (805) 525-4474.
