A San Bernardino lieutenant's tweet has fueled an online debate about the use of deadly force.

Lt. Travis Walker tweeted a photo of a real gun and a fake gun beside each other Sunday night.

"Which one is real & which one is fake? Now try to figure it out from 30 ft. Not as easy as people want u to believe," the tweet said.

In less than 12 hours, the photo was retweeted more than 400 times. Walker has received a slew of comments, including questions on police procedures following the shootings of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson and a 12-year-old in Cleveland who pointed a toy gun at police.
