Record-breaking heat on tap for the weekend. Here's how hot it'll get
A heat advisory for the valleys and Inland Empire is in place from Friday at 10 a.m. to Saturday at 9 p.m., with temperatures that could meet or surpass record highs.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Sunny days have arrived in Southern California, and we're looking toward the weekend, where areas in the valleys and Inland Empire could experience record-breaking heat.

An area of high pressure is building over the area, and by Friday and Saturday, it will be sitting right on top of Southern California. Big domes of high pressure like this cause the air to sink, warm up, and compress.

The heat advisory for the valleys and Inland Empire is in place from Friday at 10 a.m. to Saturday at 9 p.m.

A cold front moving in behind the area of high pressure should bring temperatures back down, just in time for Mother's Day on Sunday.

Los Angeles and Orange counties Friday can expect a high of 85 degrees and a low of 57. Temperatures climb to the low 90s by Saturday -- nearing the Downtown record high of 95 degrees.

The valleys and the Inland Empire Friday will feel the heat as temperatures rise to 95. Saturday will get even hotter with a high of 98 degrees. The record high for Saturday is 99 out of Woodland Hills, so we could easily tie or break that record.

At the beaches Friday, sunshine will break through the morning clouds and fog. Expect a high of 76 and a low of 56.

The mountains will be sunny and mild Friday. The high will reach 74, and the low will be 39. Temperatures jump to the high-70s on Saturday.

Deserts will be hot Friday with a high of 93. Palm Springs will experience triple-digit heat this weekend, with highs expected at 104 Friday and 106 Saturday.
