Humidity, chance of thunderstorms on tap this weekend amid heat wave
Humidity and a chance of thunderstorms are on tap this weekend amid a late-summer heat wave that continues to bake Southern California, with triple-digit heat expected.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A late-summer heat wave continues to bake Southern California, with triple-digit heat expected through the weekend.

However, there is a chance of thunderstorms on tap for this weekend's forecast, with humidity levels reaching 56% in the Inland Empire.

The red flag warning that was issued Friday afternoon will expire tonight at 10 p.m., but the excessive heat warning will be in effect through Monday evening.

When will the heat wave end?

A drop in temperatures arrives Tuesday, and then a cooling trend will kick in Wednesday, with temperatures climbing down to below average due to a sea breeze from a low pressure system coming in.

This weekend, however, Los Angeles and Orange counties will continue to be hot, humid and there's even a slim chance for thunderstorms. Saturday will reach 102 degrees and similar temperatures continue Sunday. Look for a big drop in temperatures Wednesday, when it could dip just below 80.

Brutal heat continues in the valleys and Inland Empire, reaching 107 degrees on Saturday. The average afternoon high will remain in the triple-digits through Monday. Similar to other parts of SoCal, the region can expect a cooldown Wednesday when temperatures are projected to be in the mid 80s.

Beaches this weekend will be in the mid 80s during the afternoon, dropping to the low 70s at night. The region will join in on the cool-down, dropping to the high 60s by the end of the week.

There's a 30% chance of thunderstorms in the mountains this weekend amid humid conditions. It'll be in the low 80s Saturday and Sunday. Conditions are expected to clear up Monday.

The desert areas will stay above 100 through the weekend, but will cool down beginning Wednesday. There's a small chance of thunderstorms this weekend.
