Local resident Alex Soto said the victim had two stab wounds near his ears when he found him.

It took some time for Soto and police to find out what happened because the victim is deaf and mute.

"I started talking to him, 'Hey what's going on, what happened to you,' or anything, and he couldn't talk, so he was trying to like motion and sign language so we got a paper right away," Soto said.

The trouble began at the intersection of Fairview and Edinger when the victim was on his way home to Tustin from work, but he stopped to get something to eat.

He was approached by two men and a woman who tried to rob him. The victim was tried to get away in a car, but the suspects, believed to be gang members, chased him down.

The victim made it to a quiet neighborhood, where the suspects pulled him out of the car at knifepoint and gunpoint.

"During that physical altercation, the victim did sustain a laceration to the head," said Cpt. Jose Gonzalez of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The female suspect jumped into the victim's car and took off, followed by the two men.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay.

Police have located the victim's car, searching it for clues, but given the difficulties in communicating with the victim, they are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. Investigators are working with a sign language interpreter.

No one has been arrested.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8665.
