Long Beach mayor to veto part of city budget

LONG BEACH, Calif. All general fund departments including police and fire will see 1 percent of their budgets cut.

The /*Long Beach*/ City Council has already approved a pared down budget to eliminate an $18.5 million general fund deficit. However, Foster said that more cuts may be necessary due to revenue uncertainties.

The $380 million general fund pays for basic services, which means the additional cuts in the coming year will also affect elected officials' budgets, libraries, parks and recreation, sidewalk and pothole repairs, and overall city staffing and services.
