ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed following an early morning fire that broke out in a detached garage in Anaheim.

The blaze ignited around 1:45 a.m. in a strip of detached garages in the 2600 block of East Park Lane. Most of the garages are used for storage by residents in nearby apartments.

One garage was destroyed and four others were damaged.

The 2-alarm fire was knocked down by 20 firefighters from the Anaheim and Fullerton fire departments in about 20 minutes, authorities said.

It's unclear how the fire started, but firefighters found a man dead in the destroyed garage.

Fire officials said the man may have been residing inside the garage, which is against Anaheim municipal code.

The identity of the man was not immediately released. He was described as being in his 40s or 50s.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
