The coach tried to help the boy, but the gang members turned on the coach, kicking and beating him.
It happened at a gym at McBride Park in Long Beach Thursday night.
The 37-year-old coach, identified only as Richard for his protection, suffered broken bones in his face, chest and hands.
No suspects are in custody.
