Toddler hit, killed by driver in East L.A.

EAST LOS ANGELES Brian Marroquin, 2, was struck on the 3800 block of Percy Street near Whittier Boulevard about 2:30 p.m. Saturday after running into the roadway. He was transported to County USC Medical Center, where he later died.

Investigators say it was not a hit-and-run situation, but witnesses say the driver kept going before stopping up the street when the victim's father and a witness caught up with him.

The driver of the SUV was identified as Carlos Sanchez. He was driving 10-15 mph when the accident occurred, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Sanchez was not cited and there is no word on whether any charges will be filed against him.
