Unidentified human head found in Barstow desert

BARSTOW, Calif. Police say a hiker collecting aluminum cans found the head wrapped in a plastic bag.

The discovery was made in an open area off Lenwood Road, about a half-mile west of Tortoise Road.

The head was taken to the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office for examination.

Authorities have not determined the person's identity, gender or cause of death.
