Mother, daughter stabbed to death Canoga Park

CANOGA PARK, Calif. But one day after the murder, no one has been named a suspect. Authorities are hoping that evidence found at the scene will lead them toward a suspect.

Devastated family and friends gathered outside the home Saturday night to supporting each other in their grief.

Authorities say 21-year-old Martha Carmona and her 6-year-old daughter were found stabbed to death in a vicious attack.

Even for seasoned detectives it a tough case to handle.

"When children are involved that makes it extremely more difficult," LAPD Det. Dave Peteque said. "Especially for a lot of officer and detectives involved, most of us do have children around the same age, so it does make it a lot more difficult."

The victims husband and father made the discovery Friday afternoon.

At least six family members live at the residence with the victims. Detectives have questioned everyone from the house and say all are being extremely cooperative.

Neighbors say they were a close and loving family and say they often saw the little girl playing outside.

"I just can't imagine this would have happened," neighbor Sao Alvarez said.

Investigators say there was no sign of forced entry or robbery. While the motive remains a mystery, detective say it's clear the home was targeted.

"We believe that the victim may have possible know the suspect or was familiar with him," Det. Peteque said.

Detectives are looking for the public's help in their investigation. If you have any information you are asked to call the LAPD Canoga Park Station at (818) 756-4800.
