"He's got a black eye and there's some swelling on the side of his face; he was punched pretty hard," said Middletown Police Department Lt. Walter Reeve.
Investigators said the suspect wouldn't let up until finally a second officer arrived and helped subdue him.
He is now facing a number of charges including assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
The officer was treated for his facial injuries at a Dayton area hospital.
