Babysitter of boy who died admits lying to police

MUNCIE, Ind.

A Delaware County judge said during a Tuesday hearing he would rule on whether to accept the plea agreement from 43-year-old Tina Byrd at her Sept. 28 sentencing. Byrd pleaded guilty to felony charges of neglect and obstruction of justice.

Byrd was arrested in January, a week after 4-month-old Matthew Cheng's death. Police said surveillance video showed Byrd shopping less than 30 minutes before she reported finding Matthew unresponsive in a crib.

Matthew's death happened 11 weeks after a 9-week-old boy died at Byrd's home. A coroner ruled both as "sudden unexpected infant deaths" and no charges were filed in the first death.
