Shop it -- but not sell it. City council would have to green-light that.
But 13abc learned Toledo mayor Mike Bell's trip to China this fall may have landed some interest in the site.
The mayor's spokesperson told Action News, when it comes to city properties, the city will entertain all interests --domestic or foreign.
Councilman Mike Collins says it sounds like something is in the works. "There's something going on. How close it is to becoming reality I don't have a good feeling for and I wouldn't expect to." Collins went on to say, "While I would rather see a domestic investor, we haven't seen domestic investors line up for the marina district or anything else that we've had on the market."
So could there be a bigger deal at play? Collins says, "There's always other deals within the deal that are pending between the deals and that's the best I can explain."
We also spoke with Mainstreet Ventures president Mike Gibbons. He says his two restaurants at The Docks -- Zia's and Real Seafood -- actually saw an increase in sales in 2010. And he's offered to buy The Docks property multiple times.
We asked the city this morning why his offers had been turned down. The mayor's spokesperson says, "The city could not feasibly sell any property at a price that would generate a loss. Mr Gibbons's bid was less than the city's outstanding obligations on the property. That said, The Docks are a prime public asset and are not immune from current economic realities."
We'll have more on this starting tonight at 5 p.m.
