Persistent low-back pain may be inherited

LOS ANGELES

A new study shows that the likelihood of developing low-back pain from disc disease may be inherited. Researchers analyzed the health and family history of 2 million Utah residents.

They found that those with an immediate family member who suffered from disc-related low-back pain were more than four times more likely to suffer from low-back pain as well.

The study is published online in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
