The Academy Awards are sticking to its late February date for 2012 rather than moving to an earlier date.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak made the announcement on Tuesday that next year's ceremony will be held Feb. 26, which is the same Sunday as most other recent Oscar shows.

Organizers of the awards show have considered moving it to an earlier date, saying that earlier film awards might be stealing some of its thunder.

Nominations for the 84th Oscars will be announced Jan. 24.
