The fire broke out Friday near Bakersfield north of Highway 178 and grew quickly. Firefighters had the blaze surrounded on Sunday after it had consumed more than 1,100 acres.
Most fire crews were sent home, but some from the U.S. Forest Service remained to douse hot spots.
No injuries were reported, and evacuated residents were allowed to return home.
