The 17-year-old is charged with murder and a hate crime in the 2008 shooting of classmate Larry King. Prosecutors argue McInerney shot King because he was gay.
Closing arguments in the case are expected to begin later this week.
McInerney was 14 at the time of the killing. His lawyers don't dispute he shot King, but they argue McInerney was provoked into attacking him because King made unwanted sexual advances toward him.
Prosecutors say McInerney was fascinated with Nazis and other racist groups intolerant of homosexuals.
The trial was moved from Ventura County to Los Angeles because of pretrial publicity.
