It happened just before 10 a.m. in the 8400 block of Utica. The broken main washed out a large hole on the roadway and it set a flood of water down the hill.
Firefighters armed with sandbags tried to prevent any damage, but one home below on Kirkwood Drive took the brunt of the mud and debris.
The messy flow wiped out the home's terraced yard and quickly filled the back patio before flowing out onto the street.
Neighbors said the flow was simply too much for the storm drains up above to handle.
Firefighters were able to stop that mud and debris from flowing into the owner's home, which he had just finished remodeling.
The backyard is a total loss. The only good news for the homeowner is he had just finished putting in a concrete patio and he thinks that helped save any damage to the foundation of his home.
