The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the 6500 block of Sheltondale Avenue in Woodland Hills.
Los Angeles city fire officials said the 53-year-old man suffered second-degree burns to 60 percent of his body.
Another man and two women were able to escape the burning home uninjured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
