No deaths in CA from whooping cough in 2011

There were no deaths from whooping cough in California during 2011, according to a new report.

It was the first year since 1991 that there have been no fatalities in the state from the highly contagious illness.

California health officials credit the decline to greater awareness, faster diagnosis and a new state law requiring middle and high school students get booster shots.
