Carol Burnett, Amy Poehler lend voices to animated film

LOS ANGELES

They are now lending their talents to the animated family film, "The Secret World of Arrietty."

Arrietty and her family are tiny people who live secretly in another family's home, borrowing items on occasion, but only when they need them.

Burnett is the voice of a not-necessarily-nice housekeeper, while Poehler plays Arrietty's mom.

After working together, Poehler and Burnett are now part of their own mutual admiration society. Or are they?

"For sure, the best part, besides working on the film, the best part so far has been sitting next to Carol all day," Poehler said as Burnett agreed.

"But we don't mean it," Burnett joked. "I can't stand the woman."

Burnett has spent decades making America laugh, but in this movie she might also scare a kid or two, or three.

This is a family affair for Poehler. Her husband, Will Arnett, also plays her husband in the movie.

"He's got a terrific voice, and he's an amazing voice actor," Poehler said. "And he's done beautiful work in a lot of animated films, in my opinion."

"The Secret World of Arrietty" is actually a Japanese film from the creators of "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle." This is the American version of the film.

Eventually time ran short to talk about the film, but to borrow a classic line from Burnett:

"It seems we just get started, and before you know it, comes the time we have to say so long," she said, pulling on her earlobe.

"The Secret World of Arriety" opens Friday.
