The Harbor Department says the Colonial Yacht Anchorage docks and 138 slips in Berth 204 are dilapidated and unsafe. The 95 tenants must leave by May 1.
"It just didn't seem like an appropriate amount of time, not enough warning," said Rick Leichleiter, who has lived there for five years. "It's very hard to move a boat in 30 days."
Some have already moved out, leaving their boats behind. Some residents say they just can't afford to sail off.
"The people with handicaps and limited income are going to be in real dire straits," Leichleiter said.
Citing the deteriorating condition of the docks, Phillip Sanfield of the Port of Los Angeles said shutting down the marina was the sensible thing to do.
"The Port of Los Angeles is working with tenants to try to find them alternative locations and at the same time, keep the marina area safe," Sanfield said.
