/*Qzina Specialty Foods*/ commissioned the chocolate sculpture to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The sculpture is 6 feet tall and weighs more than 18,000 pounds.
The theme was inspired by the origins of chocolate in the ancient Mayan culture in Central America.
"We decided to make Kukulcan, which was a very important castle for the Mayans where a lot of chocolate was being offered from the people," said Francois Mellet, Qzina Specialty Foods pastry chef. "Chocolate was put on the map by the Mayans as a currency but also chocolate drinks. So since we decided to do the chocolate pyramid, we decided to go for the Guinness world record."
The chocolate pyramid will be destroyed on December 21, 2012, when the Mayan calendar ends.
