Parents' brawl at local preschool graduation caught on camera

LOS ANGELES

The fight happened at Lenicia B. Weemes Elementary School last Thursday. School officials sent a letter home with students to explain what happened. According to the letter, two parents started arguing in front of about 20 students while they took cap and gown pictures following a graduation ceremony.

The person who took the footage said and older woman got shoved, and when another woman tried to help her, two moms attacked the Good Samaritan.

Los Angeles Unified School District officials confirmed that one person got a cut lip, but no charges were filed. In the letter sent home, officials also said that the personal property of one parent was taken.

What caused the fight remains unclear. No one has been arrested and no charges have been filed. LAUSD police are investigating the incident.

Parent Wendy Castro did not witness the fight, but she is upset that it happened.

"It's upsetting because you think your kids are safe, getting an education, and you have adults fighting. It's not right," she said.

Other parents also hope the school does not take the incident lightly.

"I think we are supposed to lead by example, and the incident, whatever the situation was, should have never occurred," said parent Shavonne Cole.

Officials at Weemes said it's unfortunate that those involved chose to resolve a conflict with violence in front of their young kids, and that they should use this incident to speak to their children about solving conflicts with peace first without violence.
