Cudahy Mayor David Silva resigns amid bribery scandal

July 4, 2012 12:00:00 AM PDT
Cudahy Mayor David Silva has resigned amid federal charges that he and two other city officials took bribes from a prospective pot dispensary owner.

Cudahy's vice mayor made the announcement Tuesday at a city council meeting. Silva was not there.

Silva, Councilman Osvaldo Conde and city employee Angel Perales were arrested on June 22. They are accused of accepting $17,000 in bribes. They have yet to enter pleas.

The small city of Cudahy is about 10 miles south of Los Angeles and borders Bell, which recently had its own corruption scandal.
