Oxnard police standoff ends in suspect arrest

OXNARD, Calif.

Officers received a report of a dispute between a father and son at about 11:14 p.m. Wednesday on the 300 block of North I Street. When officers arrived, they saw the son, Gustavo Medel Meza, who immediately fled into a bedroom inside his parents' home.

Authorities say Meza refused to come out, despite hostage negotiation officers' efforts to get him to exit the home. Meza kept refusing and even made several threats to harm officers on scene.

According to Oxnard police, officers used pepper balls to get Meza to get out of the locked room. He was taken into custody and charged with criminal threats, resisting a peace officer with threats, force or violence and a misdemeanor warrant.

Specifics about the initial domestic dispute remain unknown.
