The campus was cleared of the threat by 9 p.m. Classes and normal campus operations will resume as scheduled Friday morning.
The LAPD says two bomb threats were phoned in to El Monte police just before and after 11 a.m. Police say two callers said there was a bomb on campus and that it would explode in two hours.
CSULA's campus police immediately activated the building alarm system, then evacuated and closed the campus. Tensions ran high as more than 20,000 students were forced to leave. Traffic was backed up around the campus, as students and faculty scrambled to leave the area.
"The first thing I thought was Boston, which is terrifying to me. I just want everybody to be safe," said parent Ivelisse Arellano.
An LAPD bomb squad scoured the campus for a possible bomb. All classes were canceled Thursday due to the incident.
