Car goes off freeway, hits house in downtown LA; driver flees

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

The California Highway Patrol says the driver was traveling southbound on the 110 Freeway when the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m.

The driver lost control of his vehicle, barreled through the fence of a yard and crashed through an unoccupied backhouse of another yard.

Camila Argueta was at home when the 2007 Mazda SUV landed in her backyard on the 900 block of West 17th Street.

She says her dad told her that the driver took off.

"I was like, 'Are you serious? Who does this and leaves? That's sick,'" said Argueta.

Argueta is amazed that her family is safe.

"I just see total destruction. I'm so glad that our dogs weren't back there. I'm so glad that nobody was back there. It was actually amazing how much was destroyed," said Argueta.

Authorities were searching for the missing driver in local hospitals. Investigators believe the suspect may have been injured. Blood was found in the seat of the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
