SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A man attempted to kidnap a female student talking on her cellphone off the CSU San Bernardino campus Sunday afternoon.

The student reported the incident at about 3 p.m. to University Police, according to a message sent to students.

A man allegedly grabbed her from behind outside the John M. Pfau Library, put his hand over her mouth and said he was going to take her to his car. She managed to elbow him and run away.

University Police searched the campus for the suspect, but he managed to escape.

"That's very scary for me, because I ride my bike a lot around here. It doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, you can still get attacked," student Gabriel Lujan said.

Anyone with information is asked to call CSU San Bernardino campus police at (909) 537-5165.
