LA County sheriff deputies investigate apparent family dispute in El Monte that turned into an officer-involved shooting Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015.

EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- One person is dead and three others are hospitalized following an apparent family dispute in El Monte that turned into an officer-involved shooting Wednesday.



Police responded to the home around 8 a.m. in the 3900 block of Glen Way on a report of a house fire, but when fire crews arrived, they saw a man holding a knife to a woman's neck outside the burning home, according to officials.



Los Angeles County deputies said an El Monte police officer shot and wounded the suspect after he did not obey orders to drop his weapon. The suspect released the victim, a 58-year-old woman with burns over 90 percent of her body.



The victim and the suspect were both transported to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect suffered from a gunshot wound to his upper torso, as well as burns to his body, deputies said in a press release.



After the shooting, authorities entered the burning home, where another victim, a 70-year-old woman, was found inside with stab wounds in the rear bedroom of the house. She was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, officials said.



Police said a 48-year-old man was found down the street suffering from burn injuries and a stab wound to his right arm. He was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in fair condition.



The victims and the suspect all appear to be related, deputies said. The motive is unknown and no other information was made immediately available.
