Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig enjoy playing siblings in 'The Skeleton Twins'

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actors Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig became friends 10 years ago while doing sketch comedy on "Saturday Night Live."

Now the duo are back together as siblings in the movie "The Skeleton Twins," directed by Craig Johnson. The two play estranged brother and sister Milo and Maggie, who haven't spoken in more than a decade.

The two end up cheating death on the same day, reuniting, and realizing how much they need each other in life.

"No one knows you better than your twin... it's kind of the perfect time where they, like it or not, need someone to call BS on them," Hader said.

The pair said it wasn't hard to play siblings on screen when they see their own friendship in a similar light.

"Except we don't fight. I feel like a lot of brothers and sisters fight, but we don't fight... It's comfortable," Wiig said.

But, after both actors become known for their funny "SNL" skits, they've had to overcome obstacles to read for parts that aren't for comedians.

"You don't think typecasting is a real thing, but you do have to kind of work at putting yourself out there and kind of make your own luck sometimes," Hader said.

The two are working on another project together, lending their voices to the animated movie "Sausage Party" about one sausage who tries to discover the truth about his existence. The film is expected to be out sometime in 2016 and also features the voices of Michael Cera, Paul Rudd and James Franco.

"The Skeleton Twins" is out now in theaters nationwide.
