Feed SoCal: Orange County in need of donations

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Hunger lives next door, even in Orange County. Those in need could be your neighbor, your friend or a senior on a fixed income.

"There's some really nice affluent areas of Orange County. The misconception is all of Orange County is like that. It's not," said Tino Suffi of Vineyard Church of Anaheim.

The Feed SoCal campaign, a partnership among various groups with regional food banks, is one way you can help.

ABC7 is holding a "Stuff-A-Truck" event in Costa Mesa and Ontario from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Alysha Del Valle will be at Vons at 185 E. 17th St., Costa Mesa, 92627 and Garth Kemp will be at Mathis Brothers at 4105 Inland Empire Blvd., Ontario, 91764.

From there, some of the food will go Second Harvest Food Bank, which will make sure supplies get distributed to those in need.

"In the summertime, donations are down and demand is higher," said Barbara Wartman with Second Harvest Food Bank.

Wartman said low-income families often rely on free and reduced free lunches at school, so during the summer, they need to provide more meals.

Anaheim resident David Eade lost his leg in a tragic hit-and-run accident. Since then, it's been hard on him financially and he relies on donations to get by.

"I'm trying to make ends meet on Social Security now. And it's tough," Eade said.
