CSULA student hospitalized after allergic reaction reunites with baby

ORANGE, Calif. (KABC) -- A young mother who had an allergic reaction to her friend's medication that caused her body to burn from the inside out reunited with her daughter on Christmas.

Yaasmeen Castanada, 19, hadn't seen her 5-month-old daughter Chloe since Thanksgiving.

Castanada's mother, Laura Corona, says the baby immediately recognized her mom.

"She called her name out," Corona said. "She told her she loved her."

Castanada took a friend's leftover antibiotic pill on Thanksgiving and suffered a life-threatening allergic reaction called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, which caused her body to break out in massive blisters.

Covered in bandages, Castanada has been fighting for her life in the burn ward at UC Irvine Medical Center. The Cal State L.A. sophomore is up and walking again and in less pain. Her mother says she's just trying to get better so she can go home.
