Harrison Ford excited to see fans reactions to 'Star Wars:The Force Awakens'
Harrison Ford says he knows the legions of 'Star Wars' fans have high expectations for the latest and most-anticipated installment in the franchise, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.'

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In 1977, an actor best known for guest-starring roles on television suddenly became a bonafide movie star with one film - "Stars Wars."

That actor is Harrison Ford, and 39 years later, he has suited up again to play Han Solo in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Ford said his return wasn't just about the fans or the franchise itself - it's all about the story.

"You do this because you agree that the story is well-wrought. You understand that your part has a contribution to make to the telling of the story overall," he said. "You believe in the captain of your ship, J.J. Abrams in this case. So you do what needs to be done. You make yourself useful in the telling of the story."

Ford said he's more excited for this new movie than he was with the original 1977 movie.

"I didn't have any expectations. I didn't have the imagination to anticipate that the film we did--the first "Star Wars" film 40 years ago--would have the order of success that it did," he said. "Now knowing that and knowing the legions of fans that have an investment in this franchise, that have an expectation of this film, you know, it's a bit daunting."

Ford said Abrams did a wonderful job choosing the actors for this new adventure. He said they worked hard - and it was a wonderful experience to work with them. Now it's time for moviegoers to enjoy what they've created.

"Have fun. Just sit down. Strap yourself in, and submit yourself to the experience," Ford said.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is rated PG-13 and hits theaters Dec. 18.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC7.
