PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- To say the family of 86-year-old Annie Bell is overwhelmed with grief is an understatement. Her murder allegedly at the hands of a 14-year-old boy is a nightmare her family can't comprehend.
"I dial her number and I wait for the answering machine to pick up just so I can hear her voice one more time." Bell's daughter Margaret Hicks said.
Detectives found Bell's body in the bedroom of her Lancaster home shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday. Her bedroom window was open, she was naked and had been repeatedly stabbed. Items from her purse littered the backyard, authorities said.
"I don't think I'll ever recover from it. I don't. I loved my mama. Hardest thing I've ever done... I've never been impacted like this," Bell's son James Conley said.
A 14-year-old boy was arrested after detectives found him hiding in the bushes near Bell's home. Detectives said it appeared the juvenile confronted the elderly woman while burglarizing her home and killed her.
"I miss her. I'm bitter. I'm mad. I want to get over this. I want the person who did this prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There was no reason for this individual to kill my mother," Bell's daughter Hallie Conley said.
People in the neighborhood say Bell was a pillar of strength in their community. A few months ago, Los Angeles County Board Supervisor Michael Antonovich awarded the 86-year-old a community service award for her charitable service.
Family members say they had all pitched in to send their mother on a vacation when the tragedy occurred.
"I have no hatred for this young man, because my mother wouldn't want that, but I do hope justice is served," Hicks said.
