SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KABC) -- An 8-year-old rescue dog found his way back home more than a week after getting lost on a hike nearly 40 miles away in the San Diego area.
Kris Anderson left the Shar Pei mix, named Georgia, off her leash while out in the Los Penasquitos Preserve when Georgia ran off after a rabbit on June 27.
Unable to find her, Georgia's owner, Kris Anderson, returned home to Carlsbad some 37 miles away -- returning each day to search for her with no success.
Park rangers told Anderson that Georgia had likely fallen victim to coyotes.
But nine days later, Georgia returned home.
"I heard my doggy door and the flip flop, flip flop sound and her chain and when I woke up, she jumped on my bed," Anderson said.
Georgia is recovering from some cuts, scrapes and weight loss. But her vet says she's in amazing shape for such a trek.
