Inmates set small fires at Men's Central Jail

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two inmates were treated for smoke inhalation after prisoners set several small fires at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles Sunday.

The disturbance broke out around 5:45 p.m. in one of the high security wings when about 50 inmates started lighting pieces of paper on fire and throwing them out of their cells.

Los Angeles firefighters responded to the jail in the 400 block of East Bauchet Street within minutes to put out the flames.

All of the inmates in that wing were transferred while detectives moved in to determine how they were able to start the fires. No staff members were injured.
