LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Mike Feuer is no stranger to Los Angeles public service.
Since 2013, he has served as L.A. City Attorney and before that, he served on the L.A. City Council. Now, he wants to lead the city as mayor.
He joined Eyewitness News to discuss what his top priorities would be if elected and his vision for the city's path forward.
"One of the key things happening in our city right now, across the whole city, is (the) government's not working for us. Everything from homeless to traffic, to people in neighborhoods feeling neglected," he said.
Feuer says one solution is to cut council districts in half so the city has "more responsive, more accountable government and more diverse government, all at the same time."
He added that one of his first actions as mayor would be to tackle the city's homeless problem.
"First day, I declare a state of emergency on homelessness. It gives the mayor additional authority and it galvanizes the public," Feuer said. "Our public spaces need to be safe and accessible for everyone."
